About the paragliding

History of paragliding

The first written records that survived are from 1306, when at the court-ball of Fu-Csien, Chinese Emperor, some artistes jumped down from a tower with some kind of linen fastened to a frame. Then there was Leonardo da Vinci who was planning his parachute and dreaming about flying. Josef Montgolfier jumped off of a roof with a round cupola device, in 1777. His idea came from seeing a female robe fluttering in front of a fireplace thanks to the streaming hot air. The first brace less parachute was created by Jean Pierre Blan, in 1785. Then Charles Guille in 1819 jumped out from a hot-air balloon at 3000 meters. This way he carried out the very first parachutist jump ever. In 1911 Grant Morton was the first to jump out of a plane. In 1964 the first air-cell (duvet) parachutes showed up. In the very same year an American professional, Dan Poynter had his start from a very steep slope, and with this move paragliding was born.

In Hungary this sport showed up in the second half of the 80s and in the beginning mainly parachutists practiced it. We need to mention as pioneers Mr. Béla Bocsák, Mr. Gyula Csurilla and Mr. László Zsédely (Gergelics at that time). They were the first Hungarian paraglider pilots.

About this sport in general:

This is the simplest and freest form of flying. Your equipment can go in a rucksack, so it is easy to handle and store. The whole equipment itself weighs approximately 20 kg-s. Compared to the other air sports its costs are really user friendly. The price for an average second-hand gear, with what one may fly after the course is roughly 150.000-200.000 Ft.

The base equipment consists of glider, harness and helmet. In addition come rescue system, variometer, GPS, compass.

Today the sport of paragliding has 3 direction:

- cross country flying

- acro flying

- power paragliding

A cross country paragliders’ aim is to fly from one given place to an other, reclined only upon the currents of the air. In many cases it means several hundreds of kilometers. The acro pilots carry out their flight at one given place. They start at great height and all the way down to the ground level they perform different acro maneuvers, entertaining the public and themselves. The power paragliders don’t use the forces of Nature to keep them up in the air but a light engine with propellers. With this, their flight-area is not limited too much. This trend of paragliding provides greater freedom in flying, but as a disadvantage, compared to the other two, comes its loudness. Of course the pilot, due to the modern noise-protection helmets, doesn’t really notice any of it.

The attainment of a basic knowledge takes about 8-12 occasions for a person with average capacities. After this, as we can see in the case of so many other sports, the range of possibilities for learning and developing is infinite. Paragliding becomes a part of our lives so much that at one day it turns into a life-style.

The real beauty of paragliding is the numerous chances of reaching wonderful places, the experience of countless adventures, the fact, that we may face many challenges and meet a great many new, valuable people.

PARAGLIDER COURSE

Dear Visitor, thank you for your inquiry. We hope below you’ll find all the information that can help to answer your possible questions about paragliding. If not, please contact us through one of the given accesses.

First of all we attach importance to emphasize that with our education activity we are aiming real and useful flying knowledge to be given to our students. Unfortunately we are not able to perform miracles yet (actually, we are working on it), thus we cannot load all the factual material of paragliding into our students’ head by means of some loading programme. For this reason you will need to find time to do a course on paragliding. Please, don’t believe that you will be taught to fly in 4 or 5 days, either if it’s us who says so!

So, your fist grade knowledge on flying will be crystallized only after finishing the course. And then, the real course begins, and it can last just as long as a lifetime if you persist in this magnificent sport. Having done the first grade training we don’t just ’send out our students into the world’, but provide opportunities for flying together with our old pilots and for unbroken progress. We try to give our knowledge according to the individual’s capacities and with our experience of many years we help anybody to get acquainted with the varied world of paragliding.

It’s not only a course what we offer, but a lifestyle. May-many unforgettable experiences, new friends, travelling, challenges, adventures and also lots of help in different areas of life through the circle of acquaintances.

The basic course takes 2-3 months (12-18 occasions) depending on weather conditions and consists of theoretical and practical training.

Training schedule:

Theoretical training includes the following categories:

  • Knowledge on equipment
  • Aerodynamics
  • Flying technics
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Knowledge on airspace
  • Rules
  • First Aid

The practical training -depending on wind conditions- takes place on training-hills within a radius of 30km from Budapest or other high-starts nearby and further away. Training takes place mostly at weekends, but during summer we can practice on weekday-afternoons as well.

The followings are included:

  • Theoretical and Practical Training
  • All equipment is provided during the time of course (different types of wing, harness, helmet, educational radio)
  • Log-book
  • Exam Fee
  • Annual Membership
  • An aviator club t-shirt

What you need to bring along:

  • Boots
  • Proper sport clothing
  • Paper and pen

Course-fee is 79.000 Ft (300 euro) in all.

For girls and groups (at least 4 people) we grant special discount!

Exam:

The student is ready for taking an exam when he or she is able to decide alone whether taking off is safe that day, at that given terrain, amongst the actual meteorological conditions, with his or her equipment. As a consequence of passing the theoretical and practical exams the instructor makes the note of the flying license in the student’s log-book

Training registration is only possible if you are at least 16 years old.
